Reconstructed abstract

This editorial introduces a special issue on research data and new forms of scholarly communication. It argues that articles alone often cannot convey enough information to understand or reproduce data-driven findings, and describes the growing importance of datasets, software and other research objects. The editors outline the issue's contributions on enhanced publications, links between articles and data, article-level metrics, and institutional approaches to research data management.
